Water’s Edge Artists is an alliance of plein air artists dedicated to artistically recording historic, endangered or threatened places.

Water’s Edge Artists meet monthly to creatively capture both celebrated and humble environmental or historically significant treasures.

The group engages with one another and the public, both as individuals and as a whole, through collaboration with and financial support of local environmental and historic preservation stewardship organizations.

Through these joint efforts, WEA endeavors to stimulate awareness of the need to protect and celebrate our unique, precious and essential natural resources and historic places.

Poets and Artists in Cahoots

I partnered with Joanne Lensink, a member of the Mead Library Poetry Circle, to create a painting which will be on exhibit at the Sheboygan Visual Artists exhibit entitled, Making it Speak: Poets and Artists in Cahoots at the EBCO ArtWorks Gallery, 1201 Erie Avenue, Sheboygan. (map)

Come to the opening reception on March 28, 2014 6 pm – 10 pm.
There will be poetry readings beginning at 7:30 pm. This event, complete with refreshments and valet parking, is open to the public, free of charge.

Sixteen members of the Mead Library Circle were paired with sixteen SVA artists, resulting in a joint exhibit of art and poetry in the main gallery.

The artist took on the challenge of creating a new work of art based on one of three poems submitted by a poet. That new work of art and the poem that inspired it will be displayed side by side.

Each artist submitted photos of three already completed works of art. Mead Library Poets chose one work of art to inspire a new poem. Both the work of art and the new poem that it inspired will be exhibited side by side.

The end result will be two works of art by each artist exhibited alongside two poems by members of the Mead Library Poetry Circle.

WRAP Exhibition at the Pyle Center, Madison

I will have two paintings at the Wisconsin Regional Artists Program exhibition which will be on the first floor of the University of Wisconsin – Extension The Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street, Madison. (map)

The show runs from March 9 until April 12, 2014.

April 12 will be a workshop day from 10 am to 3:30 pm

Judge and Guest Speaker is Leslee Nelson, recently retired director of WRAP. She will be talking about her extensive work in textile arts, especially about pieces she creates called “memory cloths.” Her lecture will be from 10 am – 11 am on April 12. Guests pay $5 admission and are welcome to stay for the critique as well.

WRAP (Wisconsin Regional Art Program) is a program of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Continuing Studies division. It was begun in 1940 by the College of Agriculture Extension as a means of encouraging rural artists and providing them with exhibit opportunities.

The purpose of WRAP is to encourage non-professional artists and to offer them an opportunity to exhibit and develop their abilities through regional exhibitions and workshops.

Today WRAP sponsors 20 non-juried regional exhibits across the state for non-professional artists. The exhibits are held in public spaces for two to four weeks and each participant can submit two pieces of work. Exhibits are accompanied by a workshop day that features a guest speaker or demonstration as well as a judge’s critique of participants’ art. You may enter as many Wisconsin Regional Art Workshops as you like. Anyone 16 years or older can exhibit in any of the regional WRAP shows

Honorable Mention and State Awards are given. The State Award pieces are eligible for exhibit at WRAP’s annual State Art Exhibition and Conference held in September each year. If your work is selected for the State Exhibit at two different workshops, you must choose which one you want to send to the State Art Exhibit.

St. Nicholas Hospital Art Initiative 2014

I have 15 paintings on display on three floors at St Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The exhibit will run until March 24. Reception February 6th on first floor from 5:30 pm – 7 pm.

The intent and purpose of the Art Initiative is to create a welcoming, warm, healing space for patients, guests, staff, and community members who visit the St. Nicholas Hospital through a gallery style display of artwork created by local and regional artists

St. Nicholas Hospital will become an additional gallery space for local and regional artists to exhibit and sell their art work. Christina Wynveen, Cassy Tully’s manager and art director, will serve as a fine art liaison for four exhibition seasons per year.

Artists donate a percentage of the sales of their work back to the Friends of St. Nicholas Hospital fund. This fund helps those in need pay their medical bills acquired while being serviced at St. Nicholas Hospital.

Contributions are also used to purchase much-needed equipment, support programs and services for patients and their families, and provide healthcare-related academic scholarships.

This project was conceived and executed by Andrew Bagnall, CEO of St. Nicholas Hospital; Charmaine Jankowski, Fund Development Coordinator; Cassy Tully, artist and owner of Cassy Tully – Fine Art; and Christina Wynveen, manager and art director.

The Great Mid-West Plein Air Border Wars!

The Plein Air Painters of Chicago, Indiana Plein Air Painters, and the Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association are participating in the first of its kind friendly on-line competition for plein air artists. It’s free, but all posted work must be done 90% plein air.

To post a painting, you must first post the painting to your own blog or website and then link the url to this blog: midwestpleinairborderwars.blogspot.com.

Click the “add your link” button at bottom of the page. When entering your name, prefix it with your state’s abbreviation (ie: WI Keary Kautzer).

This challenge is open until March 21^st. There is no limit to the number of images you may post. The challenge will be expanded in the spring.

18th Annual Holiday Membership Art Exhibit

My painting Enjoy the Day won the Second Place Award at the Gallery 110 North 18^th Annual Holiday Membership Art Exhibit. 530 E Mill Street, Plymouth. December 6, 2013 – January 24, 2014. Admission is always free.

Artist Bonnita Budysz was the judge for this exhibit. Budysz is a nationally awarded painter whose works are exhibited in the United States and abroad, an art instructor, and an avid artist/activist with organizations such as Waters Edge Artists who endorse Painting for Preservation. Her paintings consistently garner prestigious awards at the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and the Pastel Society of the West Coast As founder of the ecologically sensitive plein air painting group, Water’s Edge Artists, she continues to champion conservation issues.

The exhibit sponsors are Bank First National and Paul and Kathy Sartori.

The Plymouth Arts Center, the premier arts destination for residents of Western Sheboygan, showcases the original work of Wisconsin artists. Sheboygan Visual Artists Holiday Show

Sheboygan Visual Artists (SVA) is a growing and active network of visual artists and supporters that enriches the community through the visual arts.

The Sheboygan Visual Artists was founded on July 23, 2007 by Frank Juarez. Its first gathering took place on this day with four artists; Dale Knaak, Stuart Howland, Mary Kuehl, Frank Juarez and one art patron, Dr. Jack Westfall. Since its inauguration its membership has grown from a few members to over seventy artists and patrons today working in all types of media.

SVA has events nearly every month ….Final Fridays throughout the year, Annual Membership Show, Holiday Art Auction and Sale, Artwalk…. where artists work can be available to the public.

SVA members give back to the community in many ways. In addition to regular events which are open to the public, members offer free art workshops through the Art in The Gardens workshops at Bookworm Gardens and Art in the Parks creative workshops for kids of all ages.

The purpose of SVA is to provide local and regional artists with a platform to support, empower, and promote them and their work.

Their Mission is to empower visual artists through professional development and collaboration, to create opportunities for the community to experience and enjoy the visual arts, and to promote member artists and their work.
