Paint the Point Awards

I won Second Place in the Nocturne Painting competition for my painting Jail Alley at the Paint the Point Artist Reception tonight. Marc Anderson won First Place overall the paintings and Artist’s Choice Award.

Tomorrow morning is the Quick Paint Competition from 8 am to 10 am in downtown Mineral Point, Wisconsin. I need to get some rest and get up very early.

Paint the Point

I did three paintings today. I painted a rusty gate at Shake Rag Alley, a rural farm scene, and a nocturne painting on Jail Alley Street. I didn’t get done until 10 pm. I feel exhausted.

I am participating in the 5th Annual Paint the Point plein air painting festival for the next few days. You are invited to come observe 45 professional artists from seven states as they paint scenes of historic Mineral Point and the surrounding driftless countryside.

Over 120 paintings will be available for purchase on Saturday from 10 am til 6 pm at the Masonic Lodge, 304 High Street Mineral Point.

Saturday morning I will be participating in the Quick Paint competition from 8 am to 10 am in the historic district of Mineral Point. These paintings will be available for purchase after judging and awards..about 1 pm.

SVA Small Works Project

These four paintings will be donated to SVA for the Small Works Project.

On Friday, July 27 from 5 pm – 9 pm the Small Works Project Finale takes place. For $20 in advance or $25 at door the public is invited to take home one of the 350 pieces of 8″ x 10″ original art created and donated by 150 SVA members and other artists as a fundraiser for SVA operating expenses.

The purpose of SVA is to provide local and regional artists with a platform to support, empower, and promote them and their work.

Each painting is identified with a number. On July 27 ticket holders will receive a number and discover which painting they can take home. Love it or swap it. There will be an exchange wall where one can exchange the painting received for another painting on the exchange wall.

If you can’t be present on July 27, you can pick it up at the next SVA event or have it shipped to you for $12.50 shipping and handling.

Day 105 at New Harmony

Clovers 9″ x 12″ watercolor

Yesterday was Day 105, my 105th painting since January 1st. Clovers was painted near New Harmony, Indiana.

My wife and I are traveling in a motorhome. It is our first trip in our 06 Navion H.

We are camping at New Harmonie State Park. The campground had been closed for the past ten days because the Wabash River flooded the road going to the campgound. Thank you God. The river receeded in time for our arrival. I am so glad to get away from the nasty weather back in Wisconsin.

Tomorrow we will spend the day exploring New Harmony. I’m here for the 20th Anniversary First Brush of Spring Paintout, a plein air art competition cosponsored by the Hoosier Salon and the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association. Over 150 artists from all over the country will be here to compete April 18 – 21, 2018.
